CartPause exists to help people shop with intention, not impulse. We believe that a simple pause before purchasing can transform your relationship with money and lead to more mindful consumption.
The Problem We're Solving
Modern e-commerce is designed for instant gratification. One-click buying, targeted ads, and endless scrolling have made it easier than ever to spend money without thinking. The result? Buyer’s remorse, financial stress, and closets full of things we don’t need.
The impact goes beyond your wallet. Impulse purchases generate mountains of cardboard, plastic packaging, and bubble wrap, much of which ends up in landfills. Products that are returned or discarded after a few uses only add to the waste. Every unnecessary purchase has an environmental cost, from manufacturing and shipping to eventual disposal.
Research shows that 56% of purchases are later regretted, and the average person spends $3,650 per year on impulse buys. We knew there had to be a better way.
Our Solution
When you find something you want to buy, simply share it to CartPause using the iOS Share Extension. We’ll automatically extract the product details and start a customizable pause — 72, 48, or 24 hours. When the pause expires, you’ll get a notification and can decide with a clear head whether you still want it.
That brief moment of reflection makes all the difference. Most paused items are never purchased, saving our members thousands of dollars every year.

Our Story
CartPause was created by David Rowell, a Principal Product Designer with over 16 years of experience building digital products at Amazon, Microsoft, and Nokia.
Despite years of designing products that made buying effortless, David found himself drowning in packages he barely remembered ordering. After implementing a personal “72-hour rule” and saving thousands of dollars, he realized this simple practice could help millions of others. CartPause was created to bring that same intentionality to everyone — designed with the same care and attention to detail he brought to products used by millions at Amazon and Microsoft.
