CartPause vs CartNap: Pause-Before-You-Buy Apps Compared

CartNap and CartPause do the same core thing on different phones. Share a product, the app holds it for a while, then you decide with a clear head. CartNap is a free Android app that can hide the buy button. CartPause is an iPhone and iPad app with desktop extensions. On Android today, CartNap is the honest answer.

Facts about CartNap come from cartnap.com and its Google Play listing as of October 3, 2026. Apps change, so check them for the latest.

How does CartNap work?

CartNap holds a shared product link for 48 hours by default. You share a product link from a store, CartNap pulls in the name, price, and image, and puts the item to “sleep”. You can change the timer, from 24 hours for clothing up to 7 days for big purchases, and add products by hand when a link doesn’t work. When the item wakes up, you buy it or let it go, and CartNap logs what you didn’t buy as a saving, with a weekly report every Monday and stats on your top stores and total savings.

CartNap’s standout feature is Deep Sleep Mode, which hides the buy button entirely until the timer runs out. CartNap needs no account, stores your data locally on the device, works offline, and runs on Android 8.0 and up. The app was in open beta when we checked, and the store list on its site leans European: Amazon, eBay, Zalando, Vinted, AliExpress, Shein, Temu, Etsy, Wallapop, Wish, Unieuro, and Mediaworld.

How does CartPause work?

CartPause holds anything you share from an iPhone or iPad. Tap Share on any product page in any shopping app or browser and pick CartPause. CartPause captures the item and starts a 72, 48, or 24-hour pause. When the pause ends, Penny, the AI spending coach, asks a few short questions shaped by your money goal, and you decide: pass, save it for Someday, or buy it. Sign in with Apple syncs your cart across iPhone and iPad, and the free Safari and Chrome extensions catch the shopping you do on a laptop.

What does one late-night purchase look like in each app?

Say it’s 11pm and a $90 jacket is sitting in a shopping app.

With CartNap on Android, you share the jacket’s link to CartNap. The jacket goes to sleep for 48 hours, or whatever timer you set. If Deep Sleep Mode is on, the buy button stays hidden until the timer ends, so there’s no shortcut back to checkout. When the jacket wakes up, you buy it or discard it, and the $90 counts toward Monday’s savings report if you let it go.

With CartPause on iPhone, you tap Share in the shopping app and pick CartPause. The jacket lands in your cart with its photo and price, and a 72-hour pause starts. The product page is still a tap away if you insist, because CartPause never blocks a purchase. When the pause ends, Penny asks whether the jacket fills a real gap in your closet, and you pass, save it for Someday, or buy it.

Hard lock or soft pause: which works better?

A hard lock works if you know you’ll break a soft rule. CartNap’s Deep Sleep Mode removes the option to buy early, which suits people who override their own timers. A soft pause works if you resent being locked out, because a lock you resent tends to get deleted. CartPause bets on the soft pause plus a short conversation when the timer ends. The idea of a mandatory waiting period isn’t new: the FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule gives US shoppers three days to cancel certain sales made at home or at a seller’s temporary location.

What are the limits of each app?

CartNap is Android only, in beta, and keeps data on one device, so there’s no sync to a tablet or computer and no browser extension. Its supported-store list is built around European retailers, so check that your stores are on it.

CartPause is iPhone and iPad only for now, with Android on the roadmap. CartPause needs Sign in with Apple to sync, and the total savings counter and saving analytics are part of Pro rather than the free tier.

How much does each cost?

CartNap is free, per its website, with no account and no credit card. CartPause is free with an unlimited cart, the pause timer, and Penny; CartPause Pro is $1.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $39.99 once, and adds the total savings counter, saving analytics, the Someday wishlist, and the Home Screen widget.

Which one should you pick?

Pick CartNap if you’re on Android, or you know a soft pause won’t hold you and you want the buy button gone until the timer ends.

Pick CartPause if you’re on iPhone, you shop on a laptop too, and you’d rather have a short, honest conversation when the pause ends than a lock you’ll be tempted to work around.
